THE KEY TO WRITING CONTENT THAT CONVERTS

I love experimenting both in life and in business and recently I did a really interesting test with my email list and I’d love to share what I learned.

In the same month, I sent out two very different emails to my list.

The first one was jam-packed with value on how to do something really beneficial for your business.

And the second email was the story about my escape from cubicle nation - the tale of me leaving corporate and starting my own gig.

Guess what happened?

The responses to those two emails were really, really different.

See, I expected the first email - the really value-packed one that gave people something amazing to implement in their business right away - would have this overwhelming response.

But that email got me crickets! And, the story-based email got over 300 replies!

THE POWER OF STORY

Now, why do you think it turned out that way?

It’s because I shared a story that people could relate to. My story connected with them on an emotional level.

You see, many of the people in my audience have left a corporate job and have also been mums, so they could see themselves in my story.

The story I told was about how on my very last day, a male boss said to me,

“You know, the real problem I struggle with is managing a department full of women like you who’ve had kids, are in their 30s, and want to ‘have it all.’ They want to have the flexibility but they also want to have the career.”

Yep. He actually said this to me. And that resonated with a lot of people!

The reaction I received to this email demonstrates the potent persuasion power of story.

As humans, we just cannot get past a story that is well told. It is a powerful way to instantly connect and identify with people.

THE OBSTACLES

One of the biggest things I hear from you (my clients and audience) is that you want to create more content, but you don’t know how to tell stories that:

  • are short and snappy

  • inspire connection

  • feel authentic

  • demonstrate your value and benefits to your customers

And another thing I hear a lot is that you don’t have time to spend all day writing stories for emails, social media, and #allthings.

I mean, most people don't even have time for lunch these days, amirite?

So finding time to come up with lots and lots of powerful, story-based content can feel nearly impossible.

HOW TO CREATE CONTENT THAT CUTS THROUGH THE NOISE

That’s why I spent a big chunk of early 2019 working out how I could help you with these two problems:

  1. Creating really great content that cuts through that noise that tells a story

  2. and doing it quickly and easily
